Tradition of Innovation and Leadership

Based in Vermont, the company was founded by Sam Wyly as an offshoot of Green Mountain Power but then quickly seized the opportunity presented by the deregulation of the Texas electricity market. Green Mountain Energy relocated its headquarters to Austin, Texas, in 2000 and began serving the Texas market in January 2002, becoming the first company to offer alternative energy. In 2009, the expansion continued into New York City, providing service to customers within the Con Edison service territory.
